Jaipur road widening project halted after court stays on remaining structures
Jaipur road widening halted after court stays

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has paused the demolition of about nine remaining structures on Bharu Marg after property owners secured court stay orders, casting uncertainty over the proposed road-widening project. This halt mirrors the April 2025 drive on Lt General Sagat Singh Marg, where JDA's widening plan from Jharkhand Mod to the 200-feet Bypass stalled despite a major operation that razed around 274 structures. The road has still not been widened because about 11 property owners obtained court stays.

Current Situation

Two days after fortifying Bharu Marg and causing significant traffic disruption with a mobile internet suspension, JDA has now stopped demolition work. A JDA official stated, "The situation has remained the same even after a year. The road has not been widened yet. We cannot increase the breadth of the stretch until all those remaining structures are removed."

Residents' Concerns

The delays have fueled fears in Nandpuri colony, where residents cite the earlier Khatipura outcome as a warning. Bharu Marg resident Kailash Meena, who said he lost about 150 square yards of land in the recent drive, expressed doubt: "JDA has failed to remove all the structures. We are not sure whether they would be able to increase the breadth of Bharu Marg."

Residents whose properties were demolished last year face an uncertain future. Bhawani Singh Rathore, president of the local traders' association in Khatipura, said, "I have lost my shops and yet, I don't have access to a wider road. To add to our troubles, the debris is still intact."

Official Response

JDA officials expect progress after the next court date. A senior JDA official said, "The hearing in the matter is scheduled for next week. We hope the court will allow us to proceed with the removal of the remaining structures as well."
