In a remote village of Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, the discovery of an infant's skeleton wrapped in a red cloth, along with vermilion, rice, and other items typically associated with occult practices, has raised fears of black magic among residents.
Discovery of the Bundle
On Sunday morning, some residents of Khamharia village under Bhuimad police station limits spotted a bundle wrapped in a red cloth hanging from a bamboo tree outside the village precincts. The bundle contained bones from an infant's skeleton, vermilion, rice, and other items linked to black magic.
According to police, the bundle was initially dumped by an unidentified person on the rooftop of a villager. The villager later found it and hung it on a tree branch. When locals informed the police, officers reached the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation.
Panic Among Villagers
The discovery triggered panic among villagers, as superstitions are prevalent in this part of the district. Dhanukdhari Singh, the officer in charge of Bhuimad police station, told TOI, 'The bundle wrapped in red cloth had bones from an infant's skeleton, vermilion, rice and other items that are associated with black magic.' He added that the discovery caused widespread fear.
Investigation and Findings
Initially, villagers believed the remains could belong to a child buried in the village some months ago. However, investigators found no fresh signs of digging at the grave site. Singh explained, 'Locals suspected the bones to be of an infant buried a few months ago. However, an inspection of the site revealed that the infant was buried during last rainy season as grass had grown on the surface where the burial was carried out.'
Police are now focusing on identifying who left the bundle on the rooftop and where the skeletal remains came from. The ongoing probe aims to determine the origin of the remains and the person responsible for the occult-related dumping.
