The Gujarat government has effected a significant administrative reshuffle by transferring 72 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across the state. The move, which includes the transfer of 10 district collectors, is part of the state's efforts to streamline governance and enhance administrative efficiency.
Key Transfers in the Reshuffle
Among the notable transfers, Kutch District Collector Remya Mohan has been moved to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority as its CEO. Similarly, Valsad District Collector Kinnari Patel has been appointed as the Director of the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration. Other district collectors who have been transferred include those from Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Panchmahal, Dahod, Narmada, Tapi, and Bhavnagar districts.
Additional Appointments and Movements
Several senior IAS officers have also been reassigned to key positions. For instance, M. Nagarajan, an Additional Chief Secretary, has been given additional charge of the Department of Technical Education. Meanwhile, S. J. Haider, Principal Secretary of the Education Department, has been shifted to the General Administration Department. The reshuffle also includes the transfer of 10 municipal commissioners and several deputy secretaries.
Purpose of the Administrative Move
The state government stated that these transfers are routine administrative exercises aimed at optimizing the utilization of human resources and addressing administrative requirements. The reshuffle is expected to bring fresh perspectives to various departments and districts, potentially improving service delivery and governance outcomes.
This large-scale transfer comes ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the state, which are scheduled for later this year. Political analysts suggest that the government might be attempting to strengthen its administrative machinery before the polls. However, officials maintain that the transfers are purely administrative in nature and not politically motivated.
