Goa Fire Department to Acquire Special All-Terrain Fire Tenders for Tough Locations
Goa to Get All-Terrain Fire Tenders for Tough Locations

The Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services in Goa is moving forward with plans to acquire specialized fire tenders. These vehicles will tackle fires in difficult terrains where standard fire trucks often struggle. Officials have sent a procurement proposal to the government and are now awaiting approval.

Advanced Features for Tough Conditions

Fire officials explained that the new fire tenders will feature an all-wheel-drive system. This system powers all four wheels, providing superior traction on various surfaces. North Zone Divisional Officer Shripad Gawas highlighted the benefits.

"These trucks have engines which will power all four wheels for better grip," Gawas said. "That makes them ideal for off-road conditions like beach sand. Standard fire trucks find such terrains challenging."

Key Specifications and Deployment

The vehicles also boast high ground clearance and rugged suspension. These features allow access to areas that larger engines cannot reach. Forests, ports, and mining sites are prime examples.

Gawas noted the water capacity difference. The new tenders will carry 300 litres of water. In contrast, standard fire trucks hold 4,000 litres. For bigger fire incidents, firefighters might need to call for reinforcements. However, Gawas expects such cases to be rare.

"Usually, beach fire cases are standard," he stated. "These vehicles should help us fight fires and recover assets easily."

Initially, the fire tenders will be available at select fire stations. Based on their performance, the department plans to deploy them at all fire stations across Goa.
