Navi Mumbai: A resident of a Kharghar building and three of her colleagues working at a BPO were trapped in a lift between the third and the fourth floors for about 50 minutes after a power outage early on Friday.
Initial Confusion and Panic
Assuming it was only power tripping and someone would attend to it soon, they waited for 30 minutes and then sought police’s help in a state of panic. Kharghar police alerted the fire brigade, which reached the building—Tulip CHS in Sector 34B—in 20 minutes.
Rescue Operation
Fire personnel forced the lift door open using tools and rescued the group comprising two men and two women aged 20-22. “It took us less than 5 minutes to open the door,” said Prashant Darekar, leading fireman of Kharghar fire station.
Darekar said one of the four was a tenant of a ninth floor flat and the others had come to drop her off after work around 3.45am.
Police Helpline Call
Police constable Aryan Dandekar after realising that they were stuck in the left, one of them dialled the police helpline 112 but neither he nor the resident could initially give the location of the building because they were panicking. Once the woman was able to compose herself a bit, she disclosed the address, he said.
