Bharat Vandana Park to Partially Open in Jan 2024; DDA Auctions Retail Spaces
Delhi's Bharat Vandana Park to open partially next month

New Delhi's much-anticipated Bharat Vandana Park is set to open its doors to visitors in a phased manner, with the first phase likely to be accessible by next month. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has kickstarted the process of leasing out commercial spaces within the park, marking a significant step towards its operational launch.

E-Auction for Commercial Spaces Underway

The development authority has issued a formal notice, inviting interested parties to participate in an e-auction for renting various facilities. The last date for registration is December 25, and the e-auction itself is scheduled for December 29. These ready-to-move-in spaces, equipped with power, water, and IGL gas connections, will be allotted for a two-year period.

The commercial units up for bid are designated for a range of attractions, including:

  • Virtual reality gaming facilities
  • Souvenir and gift shops
  • Restaurants and food kiosks

A Glimpse into the Grand Recreational Project

Sprawling across 200 acres in Sector 20 of Dwarka, the park is an architectural marvel designed in the shape of a lotus. Its ten petals each represent a unique theme and activity zone. The expansive plan includes a cultural arena, adventure and eco zones, a fun park with animatronic installations, art-and-craft corners, hubs for local cuisine, lake-view restaurants, and dedicated areas for leisure and performances.

All these zones will be organized around a large central waterbody named Vandana Sarovar. To enhance connectivity and the visitor experience, the park will feature scenic skybridges and water canals. A standout attraction will be an 18-metre-high pylon bridge supporting a 1.2-km-long skywalk, held up by nine pylons each rising 45 metres.

Phased Opening and Sustainable Features

According to a DDA official, work on several key areas is nearly complete. The meditation zone, waterbody, fun park, congregational area, and boating zone are expected to open to the public in January 2024. The remaining sections of the massive park are slated for completion by March 2026.

True to its name, which means 'Tribute to India', the park is designed to reflect the nation's cultural, linguistic, and geographical diversity. Notably, nearly a quarter of its area will be covered by waterbodies, including two restored lakes. To sustain this, DDA will supply 90,000 cubic metres of treated water from a sewage treatment plant to initially fill Vandana Sarovar, followed by a daily supply of 1,000 cubic metres for maintenance.

While DDA is the nodal agency for the project, the execution is being carried out by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC). This partial opening next month will offer Delhi residents a first look at what is poised to become one of the city's premier recreational destinations.
