Technical Snag Hits Delhi Airport's Flight Plan System
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) encountered a significant technical problem in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on November 6, 2025. This malfunction directly impacted the processing of flight plan messages, creating potential disruptions to air traffic operations.
Immediate Response and Emergency Measures
Following the detection of the issue in the IP-based AMSS system, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) took swift action. The Secretary of MoCA conducted an urgent review meeting with senior officials including the Chairman of AAI and Member ANS. During this high-level discussion, necessary directions were issued to resolve the technical fault promptly.
To ensure the continued safety and uninterrupted flow of air traffic, authorities implemented immediate contingency measures. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) was brought in to address the technical glitch while additional staff were deployed to manually process Flight Plans for the Air Traffic Control system. This manual intervention prevented major operational disruptions during the system outage.
Current Status and Recovery Efforts
As of the latest updates, the AMSS systems have been restored and are now fully functional. However, due to the temporary system failure, some backlogs have accumulated which may cause minor delays in the normal functioning of automated operations. A combined team of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) officials and AAI technical personnel remains stationed at the site to monitor the situation closely and ensure complete system stability.
Airport authorities have expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to airlines and passengers affected by the technical issue. They have assured that the situation is expected to return to normal shortly as the system processes the remaining backlog. The quick response and implementation of manual processing protocols successfully prevented more severe disruptions to flight operations at one of India's busiest airports.
