Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 75.40-crore road and drainage project in the Wazirpur Industrial Area, one of Delhi's largest industrial hubs. The project aims to address chronic waterlogging and infrastructure issues that have plagued the area for years.
Project Details
The initiative, executed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, includes the redevelopment of 5.77 km of roads in A Block of the industrial area. Additionally, an 11.54-km stormwater drainage network will be constructed and upgraded to improve rainwater discharge and prevent flooding during the monsoon season.
Key Features
A notable feature of the project is the introduction of underground utility ducts. These ducts will allow multiple civic services to be housed below ground, reducing the need for repeated road digging by different agencies. Gupta emphasized that this technology would save time and resources while enhancing road durability.
The Chief Minister stated that the modern drainage network would significantly improve rainwater discharge, tackling a recurring concern for industrial units and local residents. She reiterated the government's objective to modernize industrial areas across Delhi with world-class infrastructure to boost productivity, attract investment, and generate employment.
Additional Developments in Wazirpur
Gupta also highlighted that over Rs 200 crore has been sanctioned for various projects in the Wazirpur constituency. These include a proposed Rs 40-crore Chhath Ghat project along the canal stretch between Inderlok Metro Station and Haiderpur, along with other civic infrastructure initiatives.
Furthermore, the government plans to establish 100 Atal Canteens across Delhi, with two already operational in the Wazirpur Assembly constituency. Five Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have also been set up in the area to strengthen primary healthcare services.
