Chennai Police Stations Cleaned in Saturday Drive Led by Commissioner
Chennai Police Stations Cleaned in Saturday Drive

Chennai: Police personnel across the city participated in a comprehensive cleanliness drive at 105 police stations on Saturday morning, following directives from Greater Chennai Police commissioner A Amalraj. The initiative was part of a broader effort to ensure that police stations maintain clean and orderly surroundings at all times.

Details of the Cleanliness Drive

Officers and personnel joined conservancy workers in cleaning their respective police stations. The drive covered all 105 law and order police stations, along with crime stations and all-women stations. According to protocol, police are required to display their official vehicles, kit bags, arms, and ammunition for inspection on Thursdays. However, since officers are often on duty during weekdays, the exercise has been shifted to Saturdays in the city. While this protocol is followed in the Armed Reserve and Tamil Nadu Special Police battalions, it has not been implemented consistently in many commissionerates and districts.

Commissioner's Recent Inspections

The initiative followed the commissioner’s recent visits to more than 19 police stations across the city, during which he reviewed the grievances of police personnel. These visits highlighted the need for improved cleanliness and organization at station premises.

Structure of City Police Stations

The Greater Chennai Police (GCP) has 105 law and order police stations, 105 crime stations, and 39 all-women stations. Each station is assigned a conservancy worker responsible for maintaining cleanliness within and around the premises. The Saturday drive aimed to reinforce these standards.

This cleanliness initiative reflects the commissioner's commitment to improving the working environment for police personnel and ensuring that stations present a professional appearance to the public. By shifting the inspection day to Saturday, the police force can better manage their duties while still adhering to protocol.
