In a bid to enhance security at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jeypore, Koraput police have installed 14 CCTV cameras across key locations on the premises. The surveillance system covers entry and exit points as well as parking areas to monitor vehicle movement and public activity.
Strategic Placement of Cameras
Four cameras each have been positioned at the main entry and exit gates of the hospital, while six cameras are placed in parking zones to keep a close watch on vehicles and people. This move comes in response to repeated complaints from patients and attendants about motorcycle thefts and nuisance caused by anti-social elements.
Police Response to Complaints
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Jeypore, Archita Mittal, stated that the initiative was taken after receiving numerous complaints over the past few months. "We have received several complaints about bike thefts and other anti-social activities in and around the hospital premises. Considering the large number of visitors daily, it was necessary to strengthen surveillance. The CCTV cameras will help deter criminal activities and improve overall security," she said.
Dedicated Control Room
A dedicated control room has been established within the hospital for monitoring the camera feeds. "The surveillance system will be monitored regularly, and police personnel will keep a close watch on suspicious movements. The footage will also aid investigations whenever required," Mittal added.
Public Reaction
Ramesh Kumar, a Jeypore resident who frequently visits the hospital, welcomed the initiative. "The hospital remains crowded throughout the day, and there have been instances of theft and other disturbances. The CCTV cameras will help prevent such incidents and make visitors feel safe," he said.
This security upgrade is expected to significantly reduce criminal activities and provide a safer environment for patients, attendants, and hospital staff.
