A tragic road accident in Ghazipur district claimed the lives of three members of a family, including a four-month-old infant, and left two others seriously injured. The incident occurred on Sunday when a bus hit a motorcycle carrying five people on the Saidpur-Bahriyabad road. According to Ghazipur ASP (City) Rakesh Kumar Mishra, the motorcycle was being ridden by Pratik Giri (26), who had his wife Kajal Giri (23), their four-month-old son Sahjal, their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Shreya, and his elder brother's wife Ritu Devi (25) as passengers. They were traveling through a sub-lane of the Saidpur-Bahriyabad road underpass near Sharifpur when a bus coming from the opposite direction struck them.
The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of Kajal, Ritu, and the infant Sahjal. Pratik and Shreya were rushed to a hospital, where Pratik's condition was reported to be critical. The bus driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized by the police.
Background of the Victims
Initial investigations revealed that Pratik's mother-in-law had undergone surgery on Saturday. The family had gone to visit her before heading to see a relative in Nadwa Mathiyan village in Azamgarh. They were returning to Shahpur on Sunday morning when the accident occurred.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Kajal, Ritu, and Sahjal, who was in his mother's lap, were crushed under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot. The police chased the bus and apprehended the driver.
