BMC Contractors Dump Debris in Rivers to Fake Silt Removal: Allegations
BMC Contractors Dump Debris in Rivers to Fake Silt Removal

Mumbai: Members of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) standing committee on Wednesday alleged that contractors had dumped construction debris alongside rivers to show that a higher quantum of silt had been removed during cleanup operations.

NCP member Sayeeda Khan raised the issue through a point of order, stating that at one such site in Kurla, the contractor engaged for desilting the Mithi river had covered the debris with silt in an attempt at a cover-up. She sought that drones be deployed to monitor desilting activities to ensure transparency.

BJP's Priti Satam added that a contractor of a sewage treatment plant was dumping debris into the Walbhat river. The allegations highlight concerns over the effectiveness and integrity of the desilting process in Mumbai's rivers.
