In a bold and unprecedented move, the Ballari Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday initiated stringent measures against private hospitals that have been persistently flouting solid and biomedical waste disposal regulations. The civic body sent a powerful message by dumping garbage directly in front of two non-compliant establishments, highlighting the severity of their violations.
Repeated Warnings Ignored by Hospitals
The action was specifically targeted at two private hospitals located on Moka Road. According to municipal authorities, these institutions had continued to disregard waste management rules despite multiple warnings, official notices, and financial penalties. Municipal Administrator R Thippeswamy detailed the infractions, noting that one hospital was indiscriminately dumping general waste in public areas, while the other was improperly disposing of biomedical waste in municipal garbage trucks. This reckless behavior posed significant health risks to sanitation workers and the general public, exacerbating environmental and safety concerns.
Escalation to Public Shaming Tactics
Thippeswamy emphasized that both hospitals had previously been served with notices and fined for their violations, yet their management failed to implement any corrective measures. "Despite repeated instructions and penalties, the hospital administrations did not take the warnings seriously, and failed to comply with the prescribed waste disposal norms," he stated. In response, municipal staff resorted to dumping garbage at the entrances of the hospitals on Wednesday morning as a form of protest. Officials clarified that this drastic step was intended to raise awareness and deter similar violations by other institutions in the future.

Civic officials issued a stern warning, indicating that this action is merely the beginning. "This is only the first step. If any hospital or establishment throws garbage in public places or disposes of biomedical waste illegally in the future, the municipal corporation will initiate similar strict action without hesitation," they declared. The sudden enforcement reportedly caused panic among hospital staff, who were seen urgently contacting their management after the garbage was dumped at their premises.
