Dibrugarh: The Assam Police conducted an area domination exercise along the inter-state border and riverine areas of the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary at Sadiya in Tinsukia district on Monday. Senior officers visited local communities under the jurisdiction of Saikhowaghat Police Station to strengthen ties between the police and the public.
Community Engagement and Grievance Redressal
Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), Sadiya, Arunima Bhuyan, accompanied by the officer-in-charge of Saikhowaghat Police Station and other police personnel, visited homes in local communities. They listened to public grievances, reinforced confidence-building measures, and emphasized the importance of cooperation between residents and law enforcement in maintaining a secure and peaceful border region.
Strategic Importance of the Region
Tinsukia district, where Sadiya is located, shares its borders with three districts of Arunachal Pradesh: Changlang, Namsai, and Lower Dibang Valley. The inter-state border and riverine terrain in this zone present unique challenges for law enforcement. Regular area domination exercises are essential for maintaining order, gathering ground-level intelligence, and keeping communication channels open with border communities.
The Bhupen Hazarika Setu, also known as the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, connects Dhola in Tinsukia to Sadiya. It serves as the first permanent road link between northern Assam and eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Located near the India-China border, the bridge has significantly enhanced strategic access to the region. This increased connectivity has also highlighted the need for sustained police presence and community engagement in the area.
Objectives of the Exercise
During Monday’s exercise, officers interacted with residents across several localities, addressing concerns related to security, cross-border movement, and day-to-day law and order. The primary aim was to reassure communities living in sensitive border areas that the administration remains accessible and responsive to their needs. By fostering trust and cooperation, the police seek to enhance border security and ensure long-term peace in the region.
This initiative reflects the Assam Police’s commitment to proactive policing and community partnership, particularly in strategically important border zones. Regular such exercises are planned to maintain vigilance and strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the public.
