A 99-year-old man, confined to a wheelchair, made a heartfelt and emotional plea to the Ludhiana police on Tuesday, urging them to locate his missing grandson. The elderly man, identified as Gurdial Singh, arrived at the police station accompanied by family members, his voice trembling with emotion as he narrated the disappearance of his 25-year-old grandson, Harpreet Singh.
The Emotional Appeal
Gurdial Singh, a resident of the Haibowal area in Ludhiana, stated that Harpreet had left home on the morning of January 15, saying he was going to meet a friend. However, he never returned. Despite the family's frantic efforts to trace him through phone calls and visits to known acquaintances, there was no trace of the young man. The family then approached the local police, but with no progress, the elderly grandfather decided to personally appeal to the authorities.
In a poignant moment captured by local media, Gurdial Singh, with tears in his eyes, said, "I have lived for almost a century, but I cannot bear the thought of losing my grandson. Please help me find him before I leave this world." His words moved the police personnel present, who assured him of their full support.
Police Response
Following the appeal, the Ludhiana police registered a missing person case and launched a search operation. A team of officers has been assigned to investigate Harpreet's disappearance. Preliminary inquiries have been made, and the police are scanning CCTV footage from areas near the Singh residence and potential locations Harpreet might have visited.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajinder Singh said, "We understand the emotional distress of the family. Our teams are working diligently to locate Harpreet. We have also issued a lookout notice and are coordinating with other police stations."
Family's Ordeal
The family has been living in constant worry since Harpreet's disappearance. His mother, Kuldip Kaur, said, "My son is a responsible boy. He would never disappear without telling us. We fear something terrible has happened." The family has circulated photographs of Harpreet on social media and distributed missing person flyers in the city.
Neighbors and community members have also joined the search efforts. Local resident Amrit Singh said, "We have known the family for years. This is a very difficult time for them. We are all praying for Harpreet's safe return."
Appeal to the Public
The police have appealed to the public for any information regarding Harpreet Singh. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and black trousers. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Haibowal police station or call the helpline number. The police have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
As the search continues, Gurdial Singh remains hopeful. Despite his age and physical limitations, he has vowed to keep coming to the police station every day until his grandson is found. This case has touched the hearts of many in Ludhiana, highlighting the power of a grandfather's love and the urgency of community support in such distressing situations.
