Dindigul: Two executive officers of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department are facing disciplinary proceedings after gold jewellery and a silver spear went missing from the Idumban temple in Palani. The missing items include 17.75 grams of gold jewellery and a 52-gram silver vel (spear).
Disciplinary Action Initiated
Official sources confirmed that disciplinary proceedings under the Tamil Nadu Civil Services Rules have been initiated against executive officers Vimala and Narasimhan. The action follows findings that Vimala resigned to pursue a teaching career without properly handing over temple responsibilities. Additionally, Narasimhan failed to assume full charge of temple duties during the transition period.
Discovery of Missing Items
The discrepancy came to light when Narasimman, the newly appointed executive officer, verified the temple inventory after taking charge. He discovered that the jewellery and silver spear available were less than what was recorded in temple accounts. Based on a complaint filed by an HR&CE official, a case was registered on May 30 at the Palani town police station.
The Idumban temple, located at the foothills of the Palani hills, is a significant stop for devotees of Lord Murugan. The missing items have raised concerns about inventory management and accountability within the temple administration.
