Madurai Commissioner Inspects Sanitation, Water Supply

Madurai: Following complaints of waste being collected improperly and often dumped on the side of the road, Madurai corporation commissioner Gaurav Kumar inspected sanitation work and drinking water supply arrangements in several areas on Thursday.

Inspection Details

During the inspection, covering Rajiv Gandhi Main Streets, cross streets and surrounding roads in Anuppanadi, he reviewed solid waste management activities. He instructed that municipal sanitation workers should collect waste from every household on a daily basis only after it was sorted into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories.

Water Supply Review

He also examined whether households on Rajiv Gandhi Nagar North Street received proper water connections, distribution, and clean drinking water under the Mullaperiyar combined drinking water scheme.

Public Advisory

He advised residents of Panneer Selvam Street in Anuppanadi not to dump garbage on roads and to give their waste to municipal sanitation workers only after segregating it into degradable and non-degradable waste. He directed sanitation staff to continue making loudspeaker announcements in every ward.

Action Against Littering

The commissioner ordered the concerned officials to take suitable action against those who littered roads with garbage.
