Woman dragged on car bonnet for 100m in Bareilly

A 38-year-old woman in Bareilly district was allegedly dragged nearly 100 metres after clinging to the bonnet of a moving car while trying to stop her husband, whom she accused of travelling with another woman. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Devchara Chowraha in the Bhamora area but came to light on Tuesday after a video of the episode surfaced on social media.

Complaint Filed

According to the complaint filed with Bhamora police, the woman, Godavari, a resident of Subhash Nagar in Bareilly, alleged that her husband, 42-year-old Netrapal Singh, had been involved in a relationship with Sadhana, a 32-year-old woman from their native village, Katka Raman. She claimed that he frequently abused and assaulted her whenever she questioned the alleged affair.

Incident Details

Godavari told police that upon spotting the duo together at Devchara crossing, she attempted to stop the vehicle. However, Netrapal allegedly continued driving while she remained on the bonnet, endangering her life. Bystanders eventually intercepted the car and rescued her. She sustained injuries during the incident.

In her complaint, she further alleged that Sadhana assaulted her, snatched her gold chain, and fled the scene. She also claimed that her uncle's vehicle was damaged during the commotion.

Response from Accused

Rejecting the allegations, Sadhana said she had only accepted a lift from Netrapal while returning from the block office and was wrongly accused and attacked by Godavari.

Police Action

Bhamora SHO Pawan Kumar said an FIR had been registered against Netrapal and Sadhana under relevant sections of the BNS, including attempt to murder, rash driving, assault, and voluntarily causing hurt.
