A tragic incident occurred in Gurgaon on Saturday when a 42-year-old woman lost her life after being struck by a speeding canter near the TCI Chowk flyover in the Farrukhnagar area. The victim has been identified as Uma Devi, a native of Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh. She had been residing in rented accommodation in Khawaspur village and was employed as a labourer at a cold chain company located on Pataudi Road.

Incident Details

According to the police, the accident took place around 5:30 pm when Uma Devi was returning home from work. As she was crossing the road below the TCI Chowk flyover, an unidentified canter driver, driving at high speed, hit her. The impact threw her onto the road, causing severe injuries. The driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Police Response and Investigation

Upon receiving information, Vimlesh Kumar, the deceased's brother-in-law, rushed to the spot. He later filed a complaint at the Farrukhnagar police station, leading to the registration of a case against the unknown driver. The police have invoked Sections 106 (death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving) of the BNS. An officer familiar with the investigation stated, “We have launched a thorough investigation. Teams are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the canter and its driver. We will apprehend the truck driver soon and take legal action.”

Medical Confirmation

Uma Devi was immediately taken to the government hospital in Sector 10, Gurgaon, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival. Hospital documents have been included in the case file.
