White House Faith Advisor's Trump-Jesus Comparison Ignites Global Controversy
White House faith advisor Paula White is currently under intense online scrutiny following her recent remarks praising US President Donald Trump in a manner that has sparked widespread outrage. On Wednesday, Trump hosted an Easter gathering at the White House with evangelical groups, where White, also known as Paula White-Cain, delivered a speech that drew sharp criticism.
Controversial Speech at White House Easter Event
During a private segment of the event, Pastor Paula White-Cain addressed the audience and made a direct comparison between the 79-year-old leader and Jesus Christ. She asserted that both figures had experienced betrayal, arrest, and false accusations, stating, "It's a familiar pattern that our Lord and Saviour showed us." White-Cain elaborated by highlighting lessons from Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection, emphasizing leadership through sacrifice.
She further claimed that Trump had paid a price like "no one" had, nearly costing him his life. In her address, she said, "Sir, because of his resurrection, you rose up. Because he was victorious, you were victorious," adding, "Sir I believe the Lord said to tell you this, because of his victory, you will be victorious in all you put your hand to." While this speech received a standing ovation from the MAGA supporters present, it provoked anger among religious followers globally.
Online Backlash and Criticism from Religious Communities
The comparison quickly ignited a firestorm on social media, with many users expressing disgust and labeling the remarks as blasphemous. One user on X commented, "When Paula White says no one has paid the price like you, that’s not theology, that’s flattery on steroids. Easter is about spiritual redemption, not political branding. If every leader who faced backlash started claiming a messianic arc, history would look like a Sunday school parody. Faith is sacred. Turning it into a campaign prop at a White House lunch isn’t divine. It’s theatrical." Another user stated, "This is absolutely vile to anyone who believes the gospel."
The statement also faced condemnation from numerous priests, pastors, and political strategists. Rich Raho, a Catholic theologian, posted on X, "Blasphemous. It’s stunning to see a US Bishop standing right there on the stage while Paula White compares Trump to Jesus Christ." Political strategist Jeff Timmer added, "Freaks, liars, charlatans, grifters, criminals - anything but Christians. All of them."
Paula White's History of Controversy
Paula White is no stranger to controversy. In March 2026, she urged followers to donate "the first tenth of your gross income" to support her ministry, including projects in Israel, which led to online trolling. Earlier, in February 2026, she encouraged attendees at her conference to give a "sacrificial seed" of $1,000 to aid the ministry of her friend Eddie James, suggesting alternatives like $100 for those unable to contribute the full amount.
White-Cain, a televangelist, was appointed as Trump's special advisor to the Faith and Opportunity Initiative in 2019, a role established within the White House Office of Public Liaison. Her relationship with Trump dates back to 2002 when she became his spiritual counselor. In 2017, she made history by delivering the invocation at his inauguration, becoming the first female clergy member to do so.
This latest incident has reignited debates about the intersection of faith and politics, with critics arguing that such comparisons undermine religious sanctity for political gain.
