New Delhi: Newly elected West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday allocated portfolios to five ministers in his government. Dilip Ghosh received the state's rural development, panchayats, and animal resources department, while Agnimitra Paul is set to head the women and child welfare department.
Additionally, Ashok Kirtania got the state's food department, Khudiram Tudu received the backward class welfare department, and Nisith Pramanik was assigned the North Bengal development, sports, and youth welfare department.
Major Policy Decisions Announced
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Adhikari unveiled a slew of major policy and administrative decisions, including bringing the state under the Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme, handing over land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for border fencing, and implementing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) criminal law framework. The announcements were made after the first cabinet meeting of the BJP government in the state, chaired by Adhikari and attended by newly sworn-in ministers and senior officials.
Central Schemes to Be Implemented
Addressing the media, the chief minister said West Bengal would now implement several flagship central schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, PM SHRI, and PM Vishwakarma. He also announced the rollout of welfare initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Ujjwala Yojana in the state.
These decisions mark a significant shift in the state's governance, as the new BJP government aims to align with central policies and welfare programs. The portfolio allocation and policy announcements are expected to set the agenda for the administration's priorities in the coming months.
