Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Inaugurates Char Dham Yatra 2026 with Emphasis on Safety and Sustainability

In a significant event held in Rishikesh on Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially inaugurated the Char Dham Yatra 2026. The ceremony was organized by the Joint Rotation Yatra Arrangement Committee, marking the commencement of the annual pilgrimage that attracts millions of devotees from across India.

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Dhami personally flagged off buses carrying pilgrims to the sacred Char Dham shrines. He also took the time to inspect a free medical camp set up specifically for the devotees, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of all participants.

A Journey of Faith and Devotion

The chief minister reiterated the state government's unwavering commitment to making the yatra smooth, safe, well-organized, and divine. He highlighted that under the blessings of Mother Ganga, the pilgrimage continues to set new records each year, with the government personally reviewing preparations regularly to ensure every pilgrim experiences safety, respect, and a divine connection.

Green Initiatives and Cleanliness Drive

Chief Minister Dhami urged all pilgrims to maintain cleanliness at religious sites and along travel routes, stating that every particle of Uttarakhand is sacred and preserving its purity is a collective responsibility. He drew a parallel, noting that just as people keep their home temples clean, Devbhoomi must also be kept pure and clean.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state has set ambitious targets for a Green Char Dham Yatra and a plastic-free Kedarnath Dham. To support this, proper sanitation arrangements have been ensured along the routes, and it is now mandatory for all vehicles to carry dustbins, promoting environmental sustainability.

Infrastructure Developments Enhancing Pilgrimage Experience

Highlighting key infrastructure projects, Chief Minister Dhami mentioned several historic initiatives underway to make the journey more convenient. The recent inauguration of the Rs 12,000 crore Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has significantly reduced travel time and improved accessibility. Additionally, reconstruction work is progressing at Kedarnath and Badrinath, while facilities are being rapidly expanded at Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Hemkund Sahib.

Under the All-Weather Road project, pilgrimage routes have been made more accessible, and ropeway projects from Gaurikund to Kedarnath and from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib are advancing. The chief minister also noted that the Char Dham Yatra supports the livelihoods of lakhs of people, encouraging pilgrims to promote local products and contribute to the local economy.

Government Efforts for Pilgrim Safety and Health

Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal emphasized that the state government is working with full sensitivity toward the convenience, safety, and health of pilgrims. He advised travelers to follow official guidelines and undergo health check-ups before the journey if necessary. A medical hospital in Kedarnath is already operational, and a 50-bed hospital in Badrinath is set to be completed by June, with adequate healthcare facilities arranged along the route.

Cabinet Minister Pradeep Batra added that the Transport Department is continuously preparing for the yatra, with shuttle services introduced on single-lane roads and in landslide-prone areas. A helpline number will be provided for movable shuttle services, and LED displays will be installed at various locations to disseminate real-time information, ensuring a smooth and safe journey for every pilgrim.
