A chilling incident unfolded in the small town of Baberu, located in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, on Friday afternoon. The cries of a young child echoing from a residential house drew the attention of concerned neighbours, leading to the discovery of a woman's body hanging from a hook with a scarf tied around her neck.

Upon receiving the alert, a police team swiftly arrived at the scene and carefully brought down the body. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Mohini, a resident of the area. Preliminary investigations by the authorities suggest that the tragic event may have occurred while she was recording a video on her mobile phone, potentially for a social media reel. No suicide note has been recovered from the premises, adding to the mystery surrounding her death.
Mohini is survived by her husband, Jagjeet Kumar, who is employed in a private sector job, and their two young children—an eight-month-old son and a four-year-old daughter. The couple had been married for approximately eight years, and family members described their relationship as peaceful without any apparent disputes.

The four-year-old daughter was present in the room at the time of the incident, and it was her distressed cries that initially alerted the neighbours. According to Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal, the young girl informed the police that her mother was watching something on her phone and subsequently carried out the act that led to her demise.
During their initial inquiry, law enforcement officials examined Mohini's mobile device and uncovered disturbing evidence. The phone revealed extensive online searches related to 'how to hang oneself,' and it was also found that she had been viewing reels depicting hanging scenarios. Station House Officer Rajendra Singh confirmed these findings, stating that the digital trail pointed towards a possible imitation of content she had consumed.

Jagjeet Kumar, who was at work when the tragedy occurred, was immediately informed by a local resident and rushed home. He expressed shock and grief over the sudden loss, emphasizing that there were no known issues in their marital life. Mohini's father-in-law, Ram Gopal, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the family was not facing any crisis and that he was unaware of her activities on social media or whether she created reels.
