Uttar Pradesh Resident Safely Evacuated from Conflict Zone in Israel

In a remarkable display of governmental responsiveness and international coordination, Akhilesh Kumar, a resident of Akbarpur in Ambedkar Nagar district, Uttar Pradesh, has been successfully rescued from the war-affected city of Netanya in Israel. His safe return was orchestrated through Jordan, following the direct intervention of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the proactive efforts of District Magistrate Anupam Shukla.

A Desperate Situation in a Foreign Land

Akhilesh Kumar had traveled to Israel for employment opportunities but found himself in dire circumstances due to non-cooperation from his employer and the escalating conflict conditions. The situation took a severe toll on his mental health, leaving him distressed and incapable of arranging his own return. His condition deteriorated to the point where he was completely helpless and unable to navigate the complexities of international travel during a crisis.

Family's Emotional Appeal Triggers Official Action

The breakthrough came when Akhilesh's wife, Kiran Devi, a resident of Hajpura village under Sammanpur police station in Jalalpur tehsil, attended a janata darshan public hearing on March 25. During this event, she made an emotional and urgent appeal to District Magistrate Anupam Shukla, pleading for assistance in securing her husband's safe return from the conflict zone.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, DM Shukla immediately escalated the matter to the state government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, upon being informed, issued clear instructions to senior officials to ensure Akhilesh's safe evacuation without delay.

Multi-Level Coordination Across Borders

On March 28, formal communications were dispatched to the Indian Embassy in Israel, initiating a complex rescue operation. The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India established continuous high-level coordination involving multiple stakeholders:

  • The Indian Ambassador in Tel Aviv
  • Consular officials in Israel
  • The Indian Ambassador in Jordan
  • The Jordanian administration

This coordinated effort significantly accelerated the entire process, demonstrating effective diplomatic and administrative collaboration.

Innovative Evacuation Strategy Amid Airport Closures

With airports in Israel closed due to the conflict, authorities devised an alternative evacuation plan. On April 1, arrangements were finalized for a Jordan visa and an international air ticket. The following day, April 2, Akhilesh was safely transported by a special vehicle to the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv.

From there, he was taken by land to the Jordan border. With assistance from the Indian Embassy in Jordan and local Jordanian authorities, he was escorted to Amman, the capital of Jordan. On the same day, he boarded a Royal Jordanian flight and safely reached Mumbai on April 3.

Seamless Handover and Final Journey Home

At Mumbai airport, Royal Jordanian representative Rishabh Singh formally handed Akhilesh over to Air India staff. He then traveled from Mumbai to Lucknow on Air India flight AI-2491. Throughout this phase, the Airports Authority of India provided essential support to ensure a smooth transition.

Upon arriving in Lucknow, Akhilesh was reunited with his family members before being escorted to his home in Jalalpur tehsil, Ambedkar Nagar district.

Gratitude Expressed to Administration and Government

On Saturday, Akhilesh Kumar, accompanied by his wife Kiran Devi, visited the collectorate to personally meet District Magistrate Anupam Shukla and express their profound gratitude to the administration and government.

Akhilesh emotionally recounted, "I was going through one of the most difficult and helpless phases of my life, where all hope seemed to be fading." He credited the continuous efforts of the state government and the district magistrate for his safe return to his family.

Kiran Devi shared her heartfelt appreciation, stating that the seriousness and priority given to her appeal during the janata darshan became a ray of hope in her darkest moments. She expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government, DM Shukla, ADM (Finance & Revenue) Jyotsna Bandhu, Akbarpur SDM/Executive Officer Vishal Saraswat, and all officials and staff whose collective efforts made her husband's safe return possible.

This successful rescue operation stands as a testament to the humanitarian approach of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the sensitivity and prompt decision-making of the Ambedkar Nagar district administration, and the effectiveness of international coordination in crisis situations.
