Kanpur: A tragic incident occurred in Mahoba district on Sunday evening when two brothers drowned in the Dhasan River near Jharkhand Dham. The victims, Jitendra (32) and Raja (24), were part of a family outing that turned deadly. Raja, the younger brother, was scheduled to appear for the police constable recruitment examination on Monday.
Details of the Incident
The brothers, residents of Bijauli village in Fatehpur district, had visited Jharkhand Dham in the Panwadi area along with their brother Ranjit (31), Jitendra's wife, their five-year-old son Siddhant, and Jitendra's brother-in-law Dilip. While bathing in the river, Jitendra and his son Siddhant got trapped in deep water. Jitendra lifted his son above the water in an attempt to save him. Ranjit managed to rescue the child, but Raja, who jumped in to save Jitendra, was also caught in the strong current.
Both Jitendra and Raja drowned before they could be brought to safety. The third brother, Ranjit, and the child were rescued with the help of locals.
Police and Rescue Operation
Upon receiving information, Panwadi police, led by Station House Officer Virendra Pratap Singh and outpost in-charge Sanjay Kumar, reached the spot. With assistance from villagers, the two brothers were pulled out of the river and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Panwadi, where doctors declared them dead.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. SHO Virendra Pratap Singh confirmed that both deaths were caused by drowning.
Family's Grief and Raja's Aspirations
Family members expressed their grief, stating that Raja was preparing for a career in the police force and was due to appear for the police constable recruitment examination on Monday. Jitendra was a schoolteacher. The family is devastated by the loss of two members in a single incident.
This incident highlights the dangers of bathing in rivers without proper knowledge of water currents and depth. Authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution near water bodies.
