An eight-year-old boy has described the harrowing moment his elder brother drowned in a pond in Gurgaon on Thursday evening. Aditya, who survived the incident, said he was swimming with his brother and a friend when they drifted into deep water. Despite his efforts to grab his brother's hand, he could not save him.
The Incident
Four boys, aged between eight and 12, climbed over the wall of a golf course behind Ambience Mall near DLF Phase 3 around 6 pm. Two of them, Adarsh (10) and Krishna Kumar (12), drowned, while Aditya and Ankush (12) managed to survive. Police have not yet registered a case but are investigating how the boys entered the premises.
Details of the Tragedy
The boys, residents of Nathupur village, had gone to play in a nearby park. Due to soaring temperatures, they decided to bathe in the pond. Within minutes, the two deceased boys moved into deeper water. Ankush pulled Aditya to safety, and they alerted security guards, who called the police. The bodies were recovered shortly after.
Rajiv Kumar, Adarsh's father, a sweeper by profession, had left for work before his son woke up. He expressed his grief, stating he never imagined he would not see his son again. Adarsh is survived by his parents, two elder sisters, and younger brother Aditya. His sister Jyoti recalled that the boys ignored their grandmother's warnings not to go out.
Krishna Kumar's father, Bunty Kumar, learned of his son's death when police took him to the pond. He broke down upon seeing his child's covered body. The bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem on Friday. No FIR had been registered at the time of reporting.
