Trichy: Divisional railway manager (DRM) Balak Ram Negi of Trichy railway division on Friday inspected major infrastructure projects in the Cauvery delta districts.
Kumbakonam station redevelopment
The DRM said the project underway at the Kumbakonam railway station in Thanjavur district under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) at ₹99 crore will be completed before the Mahamaham festival in 2028. Officials said that foundation work has begun at the Kumbakonam railway station and the railway yard.
Progress at other stations
The official also inspected the final phase of ABSS station redevelopment work in Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur and Karaikal railway stations. Around 95% of work in Mayiladuthurai station were completed, while 90% of work were completed in Karaikal and Thanjavur stations. The DRM inspected work at the Thirunallar railway station, a key transit point for pilgrims visiting the Saturn temple in Karaikal enclave of Puducherry Union territory.
Coaching depot at Velankanni
The DRM also reviewed the plan of the proposed coaching depot at the Velankanni railway station in Nagapattinam district. The Railway Board sanctioned the depot to address the growing demand for operating additional trains in delta districts.
