Three Dead in Major Fire and LPG Explosions at Thane Slum Colony
A tragic incident unfolded in Maharashtra's Thane district as a major fire erupted in a slum cluster, resulting in three fatalities and multiple LPG cylinder explosions, according to civic officials on Saturday.
Fire Breaks Out in Densely Packed Slum
The blaze ignited around 8:30 PM on Friday in the Navghar area of Mira Bhayander, specifically at the Indralok slum colony. Prakash Borade, the chief fire officer of the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation, reported that flames were visible from a considerable distance as the fire rapidly spread through the densely packed huts constructed from thatch and cloth.
Extensive Damage and Cylinder Explosions
Approximately 30 to 35 huts were completely gutted in the incident. The fire triggered several explosions from LPG cylinders, which intensified the destruction. Fire personnel successfully removed 24 cylinders from the site, including both filled and empty ones, to prevent further hazards.
