Thol Thirumavalavan, the leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), has clarified that his party, along with the Left parties, is not currently considering extending support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor Vijay. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Thirumavalavan, flanked by leaders of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M), emphasized that the alliance would continue to take important political decisions jointly in the future.
No immediate plans for TVK support
Thirumavalavan stated that while the VCK and Left parties have been in discussions about various political developments, there has been no formal proposal or consideration regarding support to TVK. He underscored that the existing alliance between the VCK, CPI, and CPI-M remains strong and that any major decision would be made collectively. The remarks come amid speculation about realignments in Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the next assembly elections.
Future political collaboration
The VCK leader reiterated that the three parties would continue to work together on issues of common interest, including social justice, secularism, and federal rights. He noted that the alliance has a history of taking united stands on national and state-level matters. When asked about possible electoral tie-ups, Thirumavalavan said that the alliance would assess the political situation at the appropriate time and make decisions that benefit the people.
The clarification from Thirumavalavan is significant as it addresses rumors of a potential shift in the VCK's political stance. The TVK, launched by actor Vijay earlier this year, has been attempting to build a broad coalition. However, the VCK and Left parties appear to be maintaining their distance for now.
