Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate a discussion with Maharashtra over the proposed Tummidihatti barrage, a key component of the BR Ambedkar Pranahitha-Chevella project, for the effective utilisation of Godavari water. He also requested the PM to constitute an 'M-6 Task Force' to strengthen urban infrastructure in six major Metros, including Hyderabad.
Memorandum for Economic Growth
Revanth Reddy, who called on PM Modi on Thursday evening, also submitted a memorandum seeking support for infrastructure, education, industrial and connectivity projects, as the state targets to become a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
Tummidihatti Barrage Proposal
The Revanth Reddy government has resurrected the proposal to construct a barrage at 152-metre height at Tummidihatti on the Telangana-Maharashtra border. Revanth Reddy has written a couple of letters to his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis for holding discussions on the proposed project, but has failed to get any reply so far.
M-6 Task Force for Urban Development
The Telangana CM proposed the constitution of an 'M-6 Task Force' under the leadership of the Prime Minister himself for the development of six major economic growth engines — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru — of the country. He even suggested the creation of a special fund of ₹6 lakh crore, with an allocation of ₹1 lakh crore each to strengthen urban infrastructure in these cities.
Strategic Projects for Telangana
The CM also sought the Centre's support for a range of strategic projects critical to Telangana's growth and India's journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. He also requested early approvals and support for the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme.
Revanth Reddy, who gave a presentation on various issues earlier in the day during the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, explained the state's vision, Telangana Rising, to Modi.
IIM Hyderabad and Infrastructure
He requested the PM's support for an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad, stating that Telangana, despite hosting premier institutions such as IIT, IIIT, NALSAR, TIFR and ISB, remains one of the few major states without an IIM. The state would offer 200 acres of encumbrance-free land in Hyderabad for the institution.
Seeking support for major infrastructure projects, the CM requested expeditious approval and implementation of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (Northern and Southern corridors), the proposed Hyderabad–Amaravati–Bandar Port Expressway, and a four-lane elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam on the NH-765.
Urban Mobility and Metro Rail
On urban mobility, he sought approval for Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II, covering 122.9 km across seven corridors at an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore, as a joint venture project between the Centre and Telangana. He also requested support for the Musi project, and the development of Bharat Future City.
While urging the Centre to approve the proposed regional ring rail project, he said the government would facilitate the establishment of a central high-speed rail hub at Shamshabad, and support the development of high-speed rail connectivity linking Hyderabad with Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune.
Technology and Manufacturing
Stating that Telangana has emerged as a leading technology and manufacturing destination, Revanth Reddy sought allocation of projects under the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 and requested sanction of the proposed electronics manufacturing cluster (EMC 2.0) at Future City with grant-in-aid support from the Centre.
Meeting with Urban Affairs Minister
Later, Revanth Reddy met Union urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar, seeking speedy approval of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project.
Focus on Education and Healthcare
Referring to Telangana's recent Socio-Economic, Educational, Employment, Political and Caste (SEEEPC) Survey, Revanth Reddy emphasised that quality education and healthcare must form the foundation of India's development strategy. He briefed the PM on Telangana's initiatives, including Young India Residential Schools, Young India Skills University, modernisation of ITIs in partnership with Tata Technologies and the state's efforts to create a globally competitive workforce for the AI era.
The CM expressed confidence that with the Centre's support, Telangana would emerge as a global hub for education, innovation, manufacturing and services, while making a significant contribution towards the realisation of the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
