Tamil Nadu Minister S Keerthana missed taking the oath of office on Monday as she was unable to present her certificate of election, an official said.
Reason for Missing Oath
According to an official source, Keerthana could not submit the required certificate, leading a senior official to politely decline her request to take the oath. The incident occurred during the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected Tamil Nadu government.
Official Protocol
The certificate of election is a mandatory document that confirms a candidate's valid election to the legislative assembly. Without it, the oath-taking process cannot proceed as per established procedures.
Keerthana, who won from her constituency in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026, was among the ministers-designate. The delay in submitting the certificate has raised questions about administrative preparedness.
The government has not yet announced when Keerthana will be able to take the oath. Officials indicated that once the certificate is produced, the oath ceremony can be rescheduled promptly.
This development comes amid the formation of the new government following the assembly elections. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai, with Governor presiding over the event.
