The Indian political and legal fraternity is in mourning following the passing of former Mizoram Governor and senior advocate Swaraj Kaushal. He died on Thursday at the age of 73.
A Sudden Demise at AIIMS
Swaraj Kaushal was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after he complained of chest pain. Despite efforts by medical professionals, he was declared dead at the hospital. His sudden departure has sent shockwaves through the circles he diligently served.
A Distinguished Career in Law and Public Service
Kaushal's career was marked by significant achievements. He was appointed as the Governor of Mizoram in 1990, making him one of the youngest to hold such a position at just 37 years old. His tenure was noted for its dedication and service to the northeastern state.
Beyond his gubernatorial role, he maintained a respected practice as a senior advocate in the Supreme Court. His legal acumen and contributions to public service forged a legacy that spanned decades.
A Personal Loss for the Family
Swaraj Kaushal was widely known as the husband of the late Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart and former External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, who passed away in 2019. The couple's daughter, Bansuri Swaraj, who is a BJP Member of Parliament from New Delhi, paid a heartfelt tribute to her father, calling him the "light of my life."
He is survived by Bansuri. The final rites are scheduled to be performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium in the national capital.
The news of his death has prompted an outpouring of condolences from colleagues across political parties and the legal community, who are remembering his life, warmth, and substantial contributions to the nation.
