The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of a close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari has uncovered that the attackers had prior information about the victim's exact position inside the vehicle. This revelation has added a new dimension to the case, suggesting meticulous planning and possible insider involvement.
Attackers Had Prior Intel
According to sources, the SIT's preliminary findings indicate that the assailants knew precisely where Chandranath was seated in the car. This level of detail is unlikely to have been obtained without internal intelligence, raising suspicions of a leak from within the security or logistics team. The attackers reportedly struck with precision, targeting the victim directly, which has led investigators to believe that the murder was not a random act of violence but a targeted hit.
Three Detained for Questioning
In connection with the killing, police have detained three individuals who are currently being questioned. However, no formal arrests have been made as of now. The identities of the detainees have not been disclosed, but they are believed to be linked to the planning or execution of the crime. The SIT is also examining call detail records and CCTV footage from the vicinity to piece together the sequence of events.
The murder has sent shockwaves through political circles in West Bengal, with Suvendu Adhikari demanding a thorough investigation. The BJP has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of being behind the attack, a charge the latter has denied. The state government has assured that all necessary steps will be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The SIT is expected to submit its initial report within a week, as pressure mounts on the authorities to solve the case swiftly. The investigation is ongoing, with more detentions anticipated as leads are pursued.
