The Supreme Court on Monday strongly criticized its own registry for failing to issue a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a bail matter, with the bench observing that some officials appear to consider themselves as ‘super Chief Justice of India’.
Court's Strong Remarks
A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Augustine George Masih expressed displeasure over the registry's conduct, terming it 'nasty'. The court noted that the registry had not issued the notice to the ED despite clear directions, causing unnecessary delay in the proceedings.
‘Super CJI’ Comment
“The registry officials think they are super CJI,” the bench remarked orally, highlighting the frustration over administrative lapses. The court warned that such behavior undermines judicial processes and must be corrected immediately.
Bail Plea Conditions
The bench reiterated that it would not consider the merits of the bail plea until the petitioner provides a 'comprehensive description' of assets. The court emphasized that the details are crucial for assessing the financial aspects of the case.
Background
The case pertains to a bail application where the ED is a key respondent. The registry's failure to serve notice has stalled the hearing, prompting the court's sharp response. The matter has been adjourned for further hearing after the compliance of asset disclosure.
