RJD Raises Alarm Over Bihar's Law and Order with Central Government

In a significant political development, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) escalated concerns regarding Bihar's law and order situation to the central government on Friday. A delegation of RJD parliamentarians met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to formally apprise him of what they described as a rapidly deteriorating security environment in the state, coupled with the state government's alleged failure to contain it.

High-Level Meeting and Memorandum Submission

"The RJD members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha met Shah and discussed the state's law and order situation that has gone out of control," revealed a source close to the RJD's Lok Sabha parliamentary party. The delegation, comprising all RJD MPs from both houses of Parliament, submitted a detailed memorandum to the Home Minister, explicitly outlining their grave concerns. The meeting was attended by Lok Sabha MPs Abhay Kumar Kushwaha, Sudhakar Singh, Surendra Prasad Yadav, and Misa Bharti, alongside Rajya Sabha members Prem Chand Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh, Sanjay Yadav, and Manoj Kumar Jha.

Trigger Incident and Political Reactions

The immediate catalyst for this high-profile intervention was the recent killing of 60-year-old Jagatveer Rai in Muzaffarpur district. The victim was allegedly shot by a sub-inspector from the Gaighat police station using his service revolver at Chornia village last week. This incident has intensified scrutiny on the state's policing and governance.

In response, RJD working president and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, visited the victim's family on Wednesday. "Crime and criminal incidents have increased alarmingly in the state, and the police have totally failed to control it. In fact, the government and the administration seem to have lost will to rule and govern the state. The situation is becoming anarchical," Tejashwi stated before his visit, highlighting a pattern of frequent heinous crimes and murders in recent months.

BJP's Counter-Response

The statement from the opposition leader prompted a swift rebuttal from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, who oversees the home portfolio alongside Samrat Choudhary, countered Tejashwi's claims. "The leader of opposition will say what he has said, but the important point is that the action is being taken to establish the rule of law in the state," Sinha asserted, emphasizing the government's ongoing efforts to maintain order and security.

This confrontation underscores the deepening political rift over public safety in Bihar, with the RJD leveraging parliamentary channels to pressure the central leadership, while the state BJP defends its administrative record. The meeting with Amit Shah marks a strategic move by the RJD to nationalize the issue, seeking intervention from the Union government amid escalating local tensions.
