Congress MP Randhawa Condemns BJP Office Grenade Attack, Slams AAP and BJP Governments

Former deputy chief minister of Punjab and Congress Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa strongly condemned the recent grenade attack outside the Bharatiya Janata Party's office in Chandigarh on Thursday. In a scathing critique, he alleged that both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and the BJP-led central government have failed to prevent such violent incidents in the state.

Demand for Strict Laws Against Terrorist-Gangster Nexus

Speaking during a Lok Sabha session on Thursday, Randhawa demanded the enactment of strict laws specifically aimed at eliminating the dangerous nexus between terrorists and gangsters operating in Punjab. He emphasized that gangsters in the state are continuously carrying out killings, while terrorist incidents are showing a disturbing upward trend.

"During the four-year tenure of the AAP government in Punjab, there have been 10 terrorist attacks at police stations alone," Randhawa revealed. He highlighted that just a day before the bomb blast at the BJP office in Chandigarh, a police station in Bhindi Saida, Amritsar district, was also attacked, demonstrating the persistent security challenges.

Border Security Concerns and Drone Smuggling

Randhawa pointed out that Punjab, being a border state, continues to face serious threats from the smuggling of weapons, ammunition, and drugs from Pakistan through drones. He alleged that neither the AAP state government nor the BJP-led central government has shown adequate seriousness in tackling this critical issue.

"A significant stretch of the Punjab–Pakistan border falls under the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force, making the central government directly accountable," Randhawa stated. He criticized the BSF for being unable to effectively curb drone incursions across the border, which he believes contributes to the ongoing security problems in the state.

Accountability and Governance Failures

The Congress MP's remarks underscore growing concerns about security governance in Punjab. His condemnation of both major political parties reflects broader anxieties about:

  • The rising frequency of terrorist attacks in the state
  • The persistent gangster violence plaguing Punjab
  • Inadequate border security measures against drone-based smuggling
  • Perceived lack of political will to address these interconnected security challenges

Randhawa's statements in Parliament represent a significant political critique at a time when Punjab faces multiple security threats. His call for stricter legislation specifically targeting the terrorist-gangster nexus suggests this issue requires immediate legislative attention beyond conventional law enforcement approaches.
