Arrests Made in Ram Temple Donation Scam
Two individuals have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from devotees by issuing fake receipts that closely mimic the official receipts of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The scam came to light after several devotees reported discrepancies in their donation records.
Fake Receipts Were Exact Replicas
According to the police, the fake receipts were an exact replica of the genuine ones, including the trust's logo and layout. The accused would approach devotees near the temple site and collect donations, issuing these counterfeit receipts. The total amount extorted is estimated to be in the lakhs of rupees.
Trust Confirms Fraud
A spokesperson for the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust confirmed that the receipts were fraudulent and urged devotees to only donate through official channels. The trust has launched an internal audit to ensure no other similar scams have occurred.
Police Investigation Ongoing
The arrested individuals are being interrogated to determine if they had any accomplices. Police have also seized a printer and blank paper used to create the fake receipts. Devotees who suspect they may have been scammed are encouraged to contact the trust or local authorities.
