The study, conducted by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch, reveals that 73 MPs, representing 32% of those analyzed, have declared criminal cases against themselves. Among these, 36 MPs (16%) face serious criminal charges, including one case of murder, four attempts to murder, and three cases related to crimes against women.

In terms of financial status, the analysis shows that 31 MPs (14%) are billionaires, with assets exceeding Rs 100 crore. The total assets of all 229 sitting MPs amount to a staggering Rs 27,638 crore, resulting in an average asset value of Rs 120.6 crore per MP.

Methodology and Scope of the Analysis

The ADR and National Election Watch analyzed and updated the criminal, financial, and other background details of 229 Rajya Sabha MPs. This includes 37 recently elected members. In the current Rajya Sabha, one seat from Jharkhand remains vacant, and three MPs were not analyzed due to unavailability of their affidavits. The report highlights ongoing concerns about the transparency and accountability of elected representatives in India's upper house of Parliament.
