Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday presented a unique mathematical perspective on spirituality and happiness, stating that the magnitude of one's joy is directly proportional to the 'circumference' of their heart. He made these remarks while inaugurating the Shrimad Rajchandra Sarvamangal Centre of Excellence for Women (COEW) in Dharampur, located in Gujarat's Valsad district.
A Physics Lecturer's Formula for Spiritual Growth
Drawing from his past experience as a physics lecturer, Singh explained that true spirituality is not confined to ritualistic worship in temples, mosques, or churches. He emphasized that spiritual elevation comes from expanding one's mind and opening one's heart. "People with shrunken hearts cannot be spiritual," he asserted. The minister formulated his insight into an equation: the circumference of 'mann' (heart) is directly proportional to the magnitude of 'sukh' (happiness). He elaborated that a person's spiritual height is attained in precise proportion to the size of their heart.
Zero Ego Equals Infinite Contentment
Further extending his mathematical analogy, Singh equated ego to a decimal point in numbers. He noted that a single decimal point can drastically reduce the value of even the largest number. "If ego becomes zero, you can achieve infinity of contentment," he stated, urging the audience to stay humble and calm. He stressed that letting go of ego and keeping an open heart are fundamental keys to attaining genuine happiness and spiritual progress.
Praise for Women's Capabilities and Achievements
During the inauguration event, the Union Minister also strongly advocated for gender equality and women's empowerment. He cited iconic examples like Jaswantiben Popat's Lijjat Papad and Ela Bhatt's Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) to illustrate how women-led initiatives have created monumental success stories. Singh affirmed that women have consistently demonstrated their ability to match and even surpass men when provided with equal opportunities. "Women have proved time and again that whenever they are given equal opportunities, they can perform as well as or even outperform men," he said, applauding their potential.
The newly inaugurated centre in Dharampur aims to foster excellence and provide advanced opportunities for women, aligning with the minister's vision of an inclusive and progressive society built on spiritual awareness and gender parity.
