Rajnath Singh Hails BJP's Role in Curbing Insurgency and Fostering Development in Assam
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking at an election rally in Tezpur on Tuesday, emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government's strong willpower and strategic policies have successfully brought an end to naxalism, terrorism, and extremism across the nation. He highlighted that this achievement has been particularly transformative for Assam, ushering in an era of unprecedented peace and development in the state.
Surrender of Militants and Land Liberation Efforts
Addressing supporters for Asom Gana Parishad candidate Prithiraj Rabha, Singh revealed that more than 7,500 militants in Assam have surrendered their arms, marking a significant milestone in the state's security landscape. He praised the Assam government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for what he described as magical development over the past five years. Specifically, Singh commended efforts to free large tracts of land from encroachers, which has facilitated infrastructure and economic growth.
Criticism of Congress and Defense of Investment Projects
Singh launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of neglecting Assam's potential and doubting its capabilities. He referenced recent criticism from Congress leaders regarding major investment projects in the state, including the Rs 27,000 crore semiconductor plant at Jagiroad near Guwahati. Singh stated that when the BJP discussed development initiatives after coming to power in Assam, Congress members mocked these efforts.
He specifically called out Congress leader and Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge for questioning why the semiconductor industry was being established in Assam and Gujarat. Singh asserted that such comments insulted the talent and capabilities of Assam's youth, and he urged voters not to spare Congress in the upcoming elections.
Assurance on Illegal Immigration and Political Confidence
On the issue of illegal immigration, Singh stressed that it should not be politicized and assured firm government action. No illegal infiltrator will be able to stay in Assam, he declared, reinforcing the administration's commitment to border security and demographic integrity.
Later, at another rally in Dergaon for BJP candidate Mridul Kumar Dutta, Singh expressed confidence that voters have decided to re-elect the BJP-led government. He criticized Congress for providing what he termed stepmotherly treatment to Assam, keeping the state distant from central governance in Delhi.
