Rajasthan Chief Minister Unveils Major Educational Initiatives on Ambedkar Jayanti

In a significant move to enhance educational opportunities for the Scheduled Caste community, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced the establishment of 200 Ambedkar e-libraries across urban areas of the state. The announcement was made during a state-level programme held on Tuesday to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Expanding Educational Infrastructure

Alongside the e-libraries, Sharma revealed plans for a new residential coaching centre at Ambedkar Peeth in Moondla, Jaipur. This initiative is specifically designed to provide focused academic support and residential facilities for students from the SC community, aiming to bridge educational gaps and foster social empowerment.

"Our administration is deeply guided by Ambedkar's ideals of social justice," stated Chief Minister Sharma. "We are committed to empowering all sections of society—socially, economically, and politically—through concrete actions and inclusive policies."

Financial Transfers and Infrastructure Inaugurations

During the event, Sharma executed a direct benefit transfer of Rs 1,363 crore to beneficiaries under the state's pension and Palanhar schemes. This substantial financial injection is intended to support vulnerable families and ensure timely assistance reaches those in need.

Infrastructure developments were also a key focus. The Chief Minister inaugurated 10 newly constructed hostel buildings, laid the foundation stones for 17 additional hostels, and virtually opened a library at Jamdoli. These facilities are expected to significantly improve accommodation and learning resources for students across Rajasthan.

Launch of AI-Based Help Desk and Other Schemes

A notable technological addition was the launch of 'Samadhan Saathi', an AI-based help desk designed to streamline grievance redressal and provide efficient support to citizens. This initiative leverages artificial intelligence to enhance administrative responsiveness and accessibility.

Furthering the theme of social welfare, Sharma distributed assistive devices to persons with disabilities and provided financial aid under the Kanyadaan scheme, reinforcing the government's focus on inclusive development.

Progress Report and Political Criticisms

Citing statistical improvements, Sharma highlighted a decline of over 28% in cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes within the state. He also detailed educational support measures, noting that scholarships worth Rs 292 crore have benefited 3.7 lakh SC students, while Rs 534 crore has been disbursed to assist 3.2 lakh ST students.

In a pointed political remark, Sharma criticised the Congress party, accusing it of failing to accord due recognition to Ambedkar during his lifetime and delaying the conferral of the Bharat Ratna, which was ultimately awarded in 1990 under a BJP-supported government.

Congress Response and Constitutional Emphasis

Meanwhile, the Congress party held its own programmes in Sikar to mark Ambedkar's anniversary, with workers offering tributes and reading the Preamble of the Constitution. State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra commented, "Babasaheb's Constitution ensured education, equality, and strengthened democracy. However, today it is being disrespected as elections to panchayat raj and urban bodies are not being held on time."

In a separate statement at the PCC office, former deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot emphasized the enduring relevance of Ambedkar's Constitution. "It is not enough to merely bow before it," Pilot asserted. "Those in responsible positions must ensure full adherence to the values and principles enshrined in it, particularly in today's context."

The announcements and events underscore a continued political focus on Ambedkar's legacy in Rajasthan, with both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress leveraging the occasion to highlight their commitments to social justice and constitutional values.
