The Punjab Police on Thursday successfully dismantled a cross-border drug and arms smuggling network, arresting two individuals and recovering a substantial quantity of narcotics and weapons. The operation, led by the Amritsar Police, resulted in the seizure of 4.108 kilograms of heroin, four sophisticated pistols, and five live cartridges, as confirmed by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
Details of the Operation
According to preliminary investigations, the accused were in direct contact with Pakistan-based smugglers through various social media platforms. They were receiving consignments of narcotics and weapons, which were intended for distribution across the state of Punjab. The DGP shared this information in a post on X, highlighting the modus operandi of the network.
Legal Proceedings
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at the Cantonment police station in Amritsar. The authorities are now conducting further investigations to trace the network's forward and backward linkages. Efforts are underway to identify other associates involved in this illicit trade.
The DGP emphasized the commitment of the Punjab Police to curb the menace of drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling. The successful operation marks a significant step in the ongoing battle against cross-border crime in the region.
