Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday declared the defeat of the Delimitation Bill a significant victory of democracy, while strongly accusing the Central government of orchestrating a conspiracy to undermine the federal structure of the nation. Her remarks were made during an intensifying political standoff between the ruling BJP-led government and opposition parties over the failed legislation.

The controversial bill, which was intrinsically linked to the implementation of women's reservation through a delimitation exercise, could not secure the required two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha. The final vote count stood at 298 members in favour and 230 opposing it, falling short of the constitutional threshold. Following the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla officially announced that the Constitution Amendment Bill had not been passed.
In response to the outcome, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the government would not proceed with the remaining two interlinked bills, marking a significant legislative setback for the administration.
