A tragic accident occurred in Bengaluru's KR Puram area on Tuesday evening when a private bus mowed down a 15-year-old boy, leading to widespread outrage among local residents. The victim, identified as Rohan, a Class 10 student, was crossing the road near the KR Puram railway station when the speeding bus hit him, causing fatal injuries.
Incident Details
The accident took place around 6:30 PM when Rohan was returning home after attending tuition classes. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was traveling at high speed and the driver lost control, hitting the teenager. The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Locals Protest
Angered by the incident, local residents and passersby gathered at the spot and blocked the road for nearly an hour, demanding strict action against the bus driver and better road safety measures. Traffic on the busy KR Puram junction was severely affected, with vehicles stranded for long stretches.
The police arrived at the scene and pacified the crowd, assuring them that the driver would be arrested. The bus driver fled the spot after the accident but was later apprehended by the police. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first such accident in the area. Residents have been demanding speed breakers and better traffic management for years. The KR Puram area has witnessed multiple road accidents due to reckless driving and lack of pedestrian facilities.
In a similar incident last month, a woman was injured after being hit by a BMTC bus. Locals have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to prevent such tragedies.
Police Response
Speaking to the media, a senior police officer said, "We have arrested the bus driver and are investigating the matter. We will ensure that strict action is taken against the guilty. We also appeal to the public to maintain peace and cooperate with the authorities."
The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
