Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launches Seven New Trains in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off seven new trains today from Malda Town in West Bengal. This significant event marks a major boost for rail connectivity in the region and across India.

First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Takes to the Tracks

The highlight of the launch was India's inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper train. PM Modi officially started this semi-high-speed service on the Howrah-Guwahati (Kamakhya) route. He also virtually flagged off the return service from Guwahati to Howrah.

This new train promises to transform long-distance travel. It will cut journey time by approximately two and a half hours between Howrah and Guwahati. Passengers can expect faster, safer, and more comfortable trips.

Four New Amrit Bharat Express Trains Introduced

Alongside the Vande Bharat Sleeper, the Prime Minister launched four Amrit Bharat Express trains. These services aim to provide affordable and reliable long-distance rail connections.

The new Amrit Bharat Express routes are:

  • New Jalpaiguri to Nagercoil
  • New Jalpaiguri to Tiruchirappalli
  • Alipurduar to SMVT Bengaluru
  • Alipurduar to Mumbai (Panvel)

These trains will benefit common citizens, students, migrant workers, and traders. They will strengthen economic and social links between states.

Two New Express Trains with LHB Coaches

PM Modi also flagged off two new express trains equipped with modern LHB coaches. These services offer direct, safe, and comfortable travel to major IT and employment hubs.

The new express trains are:

  1. Radhikapur to SMVT Bengaluru Express
  2. Balurghat to SMVT Bengaluru Express

These trains will particularly help youth, students, and IT professionals from the region.

Foundation Stones Laid for Major Railway Projects

Beyond train launches, the Prime Minister laid foundation stones for four key railway projects in West Bengal. These include:

  • A new rail line between Balurghat and Hili
  • Next-generation freight maintenance facilities at New Jalpaiguri
  • Upgradation of the Siliguri Loco Shed
  • Modernization of Vande Bharat train maintenance facilities in Jalpaiguri district

Rail Electrification and Highway Project

PM Modi dedicated the electrification of rail lines between New Coochbehar-Bamanhat and New Coochbehar-Boxirhat to the nation. This electrification will enable faster, cleaner, and more energy-efficient train operations.

Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Dhupguri-Falakata section of National Highway-31D. This road project will improve regional connectivity and facilitate smoother movement of passengers and goods in North Bengal.

The total value of these rail and road infrastructure projects exceeds Rs 3,250 crore. This massive investment underscores the government's commitment to enhancing transportation networks in West Bengal and beyond.
