PM Modi joins Christmas prayers at Delhi cathedral

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked Christmas Day by attending a special morning service at a historic cathedral in the national capital, extending festive greetings and emphasising the universal values of harmony and goodwill.

PM Modi's Christmas Morning Visit

On the morning of December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the Christmas celebrations at The Cathedral Church of the Redemption in New Delhi. He was part of a large congregation that included Christians from Delhi and various parts of North India who had gathered for the traditional morning mass.

The service featured prayers, hymns, and carols celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. A significant moment during the mass was when Rt Rev Paul Swarup, the Bishop of Delhi, offered a special prayer for the Prime Minister and the nation's well-being.

Emphasising a Timeless Message of Unity

Following the service, PM Modi took to social media platform X to share his reflections. He stated that the service reflected the "timeless message of love, peace and compassion." The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the spirit of Christmas would inspire greater harmony and goodwill across Indian society.

In his Christmas message to the nation, he wished for the festival to bring "renewed hope, warmth and a shared commitment to kindness" among all citizens.

Continued Engagement with the Christian Community

This visit is part of the Prime Minister's consistent engagement with India's Christian community over several years. His participation in Christmas events has become a regular feature of his official calendar.

In Easter 2023, PM Modi attended a programme at Delhi's Sacred Heart Cathedral. Later that same year, he hosted a Christmas celebration at his official residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

The outreach continued in 2024, when he attended a Christmas dinner at the residence of Minister of State George Kurian. He also participated in an event organised by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), underscoring a sustained dialogue with community leaders.

Through these gestures, the Prime Minister's Christmas visit reinforces a message of inclusive governance and respect for all faiths, highlighting the diverse cultural fabric of the nation.
