PM Modi Appeals for Strong Voter Participation in Three Key Regions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a fervent appeal to citizens in Kerala, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry to exercise their democratic right as polling commenced in these crucial assembly elections. Through a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister emphasized the vital role of public participation in strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation.
Special Focus on Kerala's Democratic Spirit
In his message directed at Kerala, PM Modi specifically called upon the youth and women of the state to come forward and cast their votes in large numbers. "Record participation will add vigour to Keralam's democratic spirit. I particularly request the youth and women of the state to step forward and vote in large numbers," he stated. The electoral battle in Kerala involves over 2.6 crore eligible voters who will decide the fate of 883 candidates contesting across 140 constituencies.
The political landscape in Kerala is witnessing a three-cornered contest primarily among:
- The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF)
- The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF)
- The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)
Puducherry's Democratic Exercise
Turning his attention to Puducherry, the Prime Minister urged every voter in the Union Territory to participate enthusiastically in the electoral process. "As the Puducherry Assembly elections commence, I urge every voter to come out and participate in record numbers. I especially appeal to our youth and to women voters to strengthen the process of democracy. Every vote matters in shaping the future of Puducherry," PM Modi emphasized.
Puducherry has more than 10.14 lakh eligible voters who will elect representatives to its 30-member Legislative Assembly. The election here represents a significant democratic exercise for the coastal territory.
Assam's Celebration of Democracy
For Assam, where assembly elections are also underway, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the electoral process would be marked by high participation from all sections of society. "As polling begins for the Assam Assembly elections 2026, I appeal to the people of Assam to exercise their franchise in large numbers. I hope that the state's youth and women voters participate enthusiastically and make this election a celebration of democracy and public duty," he said.
Assam boasts an electorate of more than 2.5 crore voters who will cast their ballots to elect representatives to the 126-member state assembly. A total of 722 candidates are in the fray across the northeastern state, making this one of the most significant electoral exercises in the region.
The simultaneous elections in these three diverse regions represent a crucial moment in India's democratic calendar, with the Prime Minister's appeal highlighting the importance of citizen participation in shaping governance and policy directions at the state and union territory levels.
