Owaisi Urges Modi Govt to Put Pakistan Back on FATF Grey List

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has urged the Narendra Modi government to push for Pakistan's re-inclusion in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) 'grey list'. In a statement issued on Saturday, Owaisi stressed that the United Nations should also list the banned terrorist group TRF (The Resistance Front).

Demand for Stronger Action

“The Modi government should have and must have tried to list ISI as well. We must remember the Red Fort suicide blast of November 2025,” Owaisi said, referring to the deadly attack that shook the nation. He argued that Pakistan's continued support for terrorism necessitates stringent international measures.

Background on FATF Grey Listing

The FATF, an intergovernmental body that sets global standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing, had previously placed Pakistan on its grey list from 2018 to 2022. The country was removed after making progress on anti-terror financing reforms. However, Owaisi's call comes amid renewed concerns over cross-border terrorism.

Owaisi also criticized the government for not doing enough to isolate Pakistan diplomatically. “It is time to act decisively. The international community must be made aware of Pakistan's duplicity,” he added.

The Red Fort suicide blast in November 2025, which killed several security personnel, was claimed by a Pakistan-based militant group. Investigations have pointed to links with the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency.

Owaisi's remarks have sparked a debate, with some supporting his stance while others caution against unilateral actions that could strain bilateral ties. The Ministry of External Affairs has not yet responded to the demand.
