Mumbai: Reacting to the FIR registered against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Shiv Sena UBT leader Priyanka Chaturvedi accused the BJP of misusing investigative agencies for political purposes. She alleged that agencies have become part of the BJP's election toolkit and are being deployed against leaders who are actively challenging the ruling party. Chaturvedi further claimed that institutions meant to serve the nation are instead working in the BJP's interest, intensifying the political war between the opposition and the Centre over the FIR against the TMC supremo.
Chaturvedi's remarks came shortly after the FIR was lodged against Mamata Banerjee, triggering a sharp response from opposition parties. The Shiv Sena UBT leader stated that the BJP is using central agencies as a weapon to target political rivals, particularly those who pose a threat to the party's dominance. She argued that this practice undermines the credibility of investigative bodies and erodes public trust in democratic institutions.
The opposition has consistently accused the BJP of leveraging agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation to harass and weaken opposition leaders. This latest incident has further fueled tensions between the ruling party and its critics, with many demanding a probe into the alleged misuse of power.
Political analysts suggest that the FIR against Mamata Banerjee could deepen the rift between the Centre and the states governed by opposition parties. The Trinamool Congress chief has dismissed the charges as politically motivated, vowing to fight them legally and politically. Meanwhile, the BJP has defended the action, stating that the law is taking its course and that no one is above the law.
