BJP National President Nitin Nabin and Other Bihar Leaders Sworn in as Rajya Sabha Members

In a significant political development, several prominent leaders from Bihar took oath as members of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The ceremony marked the formal entry of these politicians into the upper house of Parliament, with key figures from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) participating.

Oath-Taking Ceremony at Parliament

The newly elected Rajya Sabha members who took the oath included BJP national president Nitin Nabin, party member Shivesh Ram, RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha, and JD(U) leader and Union minister of state Ramnath Thakur. All four leaders hail from Bihar and represent the NDA coalition in the state.

Union home minister Amit Shah, accompanied by several BJP Members of Parliament, personally welcomed Nitin Nabin at Parliament. Following the welcome, Union minister and leader of the Rajya Sabha J P Nadda escorted Nitin Nabin to the chamber of the BJP national president located within Parliament House. BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi was also present during these proceedings.

Political Backgrounds and Previous Tenures

Nitin Nabin has previously represented the Bankipur and erstwhile Patna Central assembly constituencies in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. His political career saw a significant elevation when the BJP appointed him as the party's national president and subsequently elected him to the Rajya Sabha. He was elected alongside former Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha, and two other NDA nominees from Bihar.

It is noteworthy that Nitish Kumar had already taken his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 10. This earlier oath-taking was necessary as he needed to formally hand over the reins of Bihar's governance to BJP's Samrat Choudhary, who was sworn in as the new chief minister of Bihar on Wednesday.

Congratulations and Commendations

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary extended his congratulations to Nitin Nabin on this occasion. In his statement, CM Samrat remarked, "Enriched by struggle, dedication, and service, your life stands as an inspiring journey. Rising from a humble background, the heights you have attained—through your indomitable hard work, unwavering perseverance, and steadfast resolve to serve the public — are a matter of immense pride for every Bihari."

He further expressed confidence, stating, "I have full confidence that you will discharge this new responsibility in the Rajya Sabha with the very same dedication, integrity, and commitment for which you have always been renowned. May this new chapter of your service to the nation be adorned with fresh successes and greater heights."

Statements from the New Rajya Sabha Members

After taking the oath, Nitin Nabin shared his thoughts, emphasizing his commitment to representing Bihar's interests. He stated that he would strongly champion the voice of Bihar in the House and work with complete sincerity and dedication towards achieving the goal of a "Developed India" (Viksit Bharat).

Upendra Kushwaha also addressed the media, expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, former chief minister Nitish Kumar, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, as well as the leaders and dedicated workers of the RLM and NDA, and the people of Bihar.

Kushwaha made a solemn pledge, saying, "I pledge to work ceaselessly to ensure 'education, livelihood, healthcare, irrigation, redressal, and action' in Bihar, while vociferously raising every voice in the House to help realize the PM's vision of building a 'Developed India' and a 'Developed Bihar'."

Political Implications and Future Prospects

The oath-taking ceremony underscores the continued political significance of Bihar in national politics. With these new Rajya Sabha members, the NDA strengthens its representation from the state, potentially influencing legislative agendas and policy discussions in Parliament.

The presence of leaders from different NDA constituents—BJP, JD(U), and RLM—highlights the coalition's collaborative approach in Bihar. Their collective focus on development goals, as articulated in their statements, suggests a unified direction towards addressing state and national priorities.

As these leaders assume their roles in the Rajya Sabha, their performance will be closely watched, particularly regarding how effectively they advocate for Bihar's interests and contribute to the broader vision of a developed nation.
